V&A Theatre Gallery re-design

DHA were delighted to be asked back to re-light the V&A Theatre Galleries following an object re-display. DHA lit the original displays for the same curatorial team in 2009, and have since worked with the department on Hollywood Costume and David Bowie Is…

The highlight of the new display is the acquisition of Handspring’s Joey from Warhorse, donated by the National Theatre. We worked with the National Theatre’s in-house lighting team to recreate the lighting effects used in the production, within the museum’s conservation guidelines.

Only in England, Science Museum

DHA are very proud to have been asked to light the first exhibition in the new Media Gallery at the Science Museum in London.

The exhibition, the first in London showcasing British photographer Tony Ray-Jones, opened on Saturday as part of major refurbishment works in the space.

The exhibition also shows works by Martin Parr, who followed on from Ray-Jones’ work on cataloguing British life. Parr was asked by the National Media Museum to scour their archives of Ray-Jones’ work. He selected unfamiliar and previously unexhibited pieces for the gallery.

The gallery is an exciting new space in London, with the potential to show case major new works, and DHA are very pleased to be part of it. In the spirit of this, the gallery uses LED lighting and daylight harvesting to reduce the energy footprint.

Only in England runs until 16th of March 2014 in London and then from the 22nd of March until the 29th of June in Bradford.

Australia opens at Royal Academy of Arts

Gallery 3DHA were delighted to continue their successful relationship with the RA with the lighting of Australia following their successful collaborations on the recent Hockney show. The exhibition was designed by Ivor Heal Design, who also designed the first exhibition DHA lit at the RA, fourteen years ago.

This blockbuster exhibition represents 200 years of Australian art, from over 140 different artists and the challenge to the design was creating the balance between painting, sculpture and installations.

The Grand Entrance Revisited

The V&A Museum recently asked DHA to revisit the lighting installation for the Grand Entrance. The space was last upgraded in 2003, one of our first projects for the museum and part of an early phase of their Futureplan. Originally lit with a mixture of tungsten and metal halide sources, the new scheme is lit totally with LED. Fixtures of note include Soraa’s new MR16 LED replacement lamps, Hoffmeister’s “lo.nely” narrow beam track mounted LED spotlights, and linear LED systems from Light Graphix.

James Newton gets the credit for the fabulous photographs.
