Temporary Galleries - David Hockney - A Bigger Picture

DHA Designs designed the lighting of David Hockney A Bigger Picture, exhibited in 12 galleries at the Royal Academy of Arts.  Working closely with the artist, the challenge was to combine daylight and artificial light to illuminate these astonishing landscapes within the conservation light levels.

The artist had chosen to concentrate the display on his landscapes of the previous ten years, including some remarkable iPad-created pictures.  DHA Designs were able to supplement the daylight with wallwashing and spotlighting to bring out the rich colours, much to the artist’s pleasure.  Some of the larger pieces were 8m wide and  explicitly created for the Royal Academy’s wonderful galleries.
