Spas - BXR London

BXR is the first high-end boutique boxing gym to open in London. Designed by Marie & Albin interior designers and Studio Webb architects, it covers the ground floor and lower ground floor of a residential development near Baker Street, London. The project includes a full-size boxing ring and state of the art gym equipment on the ground floor, together with three studio spaces, a juice bar, saunas and changing facilities on the lower ground floor.

DHA Designs were first  introduced to the client in April 2016. BXR London was a fast-track project, and for the client, their first experience working with a lighting designer. Once the lighting budgets had been agreed, DHA Designs selected a group of key manufacturers to work with, who could meet a demanding specification and a tight time scale. Factory Lux were an obvious choice for industrial style spun aluminium pendants, but using Xicato LED modules to ensure consistency of colour and dimming stability. Rather than use conventional lighting track, DHA Designs selected a combination of the new Track Pipe system from Factory Lux (a pre-wired 20mm conduit with pre-wired DALI outlets) and internally wired lighting bars from Doughty to create an industrial look in the ground floor boxing and gym areas. A combination of Margo and 99 spotlights were used with 2700K Xicato LED modules to light the gym equipment and training areas. Architainment supplied two groups of Philips ColorBlast Powercore RGB floods, which at night, light onto the two side walls of the boxing ring space in a slow fade between red and blue. ECOLED supplied the majority of the architectural lighting in the lower ground floor, using a combination of their recessed ZEP6 LED downlights and their linear DecoLine15s LED strips, all in 2700K. The lighting control system is from Dynalite, supplied and programmed by Architainment (and what a great job they did too).
