Permanent Galleries - V&A Jameel Gallery of Islamic Art

From the feasibility study to focussing the spotlights, DHA Designs were involved at every stage of this gallery.  They worked with Softroom to create a warm, welcoming environment that showcased the wonderful collection of Islamic artefacts whilst maintaining conservation grade lighting levels.  They have since lit the gallery re-display including an LED upgrade to the showcases in 2013.

The highlight of the gallery is the wonderful Ardabil Carpet, one of the most important Islamic carpets in the world.  At 55sqm, it has a dedicated central floor case that dominates the gallery with concealed internal lighting, programmed to illuminate the carpet at certain times, to restrict the light-damage.  The supplementary cases have a complex system of internal and external lighting to ensure every piece is beautifully illuminated.

This project was shortlisted for a Lighting Design Award in 2008
