Interior - Miles Stair at Somerset House West Wing

DHA Designs provided the lighting design for the stunning new Miles Stair designed by architect Eva Jiricna Architects, as part of the recent interior refurbishment of the West Wing at Somerset House.

The stair represents Eva Jiricna's most ambitious stair structure yet. The treads and landings are made from a material called ductal, this product is a thousand times stronger than concrete. The stair sits in an original stairwell, with glazing facing onto the central courtyard, flooding the staircase with natural light during the day. Lighting was introduced into the stairwell using a staggered array of wall mounted T5 luminiares from Prolicht, with an upward and downward light distribution. The fixtures were wall mounted onto the two opposite walls. In addition, a circular array of narrow beam warm white LED inground uplights were located in the central core of the staircase, illuminating the metal mesh chrome structure that stretches across the full height of the stair.
