Permanent Galleries - V&A Museum of Childhood

The V&A Museum invited DHA Designs to propose a new lighting solution over the main central space of the Museum of Childhood in London.  The large atrium needed a simple but elegant solution that provided flexibility to below, and some suitable architectural lighting to above, without increasing energy usage.  This central space doubles as museum / café by day and party venue by night.

The new scheme consists of three suspended rectangular profiles, 4.5m above the floor of the museum. The combination of spotlights and ambient light suit the mixed-usage of the space, and the colour-changing LED lighting above allows flexibility for events.  Since its successful inception, DHA Designs have returned to re-light many of the gallery spaces with low-maintenance LED spotlights.

This project has been shortlisted for a Lux Award (November 2013)
